Interhospital transfer for emergency general surgery: An independent predictor of mortality
The American Journal of Surgery Aug 19, 2018
Yelverton S, et al. - Characteristics and mortality risk for Emergency general surgery (EGS) interhospital transfer patients vs EGS direct admissions were delineated. Identification of patients aged ≥18 years with an EGS admission was performed using the 2002–2011 Nationwide Inpatient Sample. Outcomes suggest that compared to direct admissions, interhospital transfers were at higher risk of mortality and underwent procedures/surgeries more frequently. Interhospital transfers were more frequently white, male, Medicare insured, and had higher rates of comorbidities.
