Interaction between the tumor microenvironment and resection margin in different gross types of hepatocellular carcinoma
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Nov 10, 2019
Cha SW, Sohn JH, Kim SH, et al. – Researchers assessed changes in the tumor microenvironment (TME) in different gross types of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). They selected tumor tissue and normal tissue 1 and 2 cm away from the HCC, and examined the expression status of TME genes and the link between TME genes and the effective resection margin. In all, they found that patients with expanding and vaguely nodular HCC could safely undergo surgical resection with a narrow resection margin, and due to their TME conditions, individuals with the other gross types needed to undergo surgical resection with more than a 2-cm resection margin.
