Interaction between low-density lipoprotein-cholesterolaemia, serum uric level and incident hypertension: Data from the Brisighella Heart Study
Journal of Hypertension Mar 08, 2019
Cicero AFG, et al. - Since high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and serum uric acid (SUA) levels have been suggested as risk factors for endothelial dysfunction and vascular ageing in previous reports, therefore, researchers assessed the short-term interaction between SUA, LDL-C and incident hypertension in overall healthy individuals. They used the general database of the Brisighella Heart Study and identified four groups of age and sex-matched nonhypertensive individuals with different levels of LDL-C and SUA level. These subjects were assessed during the 2008 population survey. The accepted definition of incident hypertension was the increase of SBP values over 140 mmHg and/or of DBP over 90 mmHg and or the beginning of an antihypertensive treatment. An increased risk to develop hypertension was observed in association with the contemporary presence of suboptimal LDL-C and SUA values in the studied overall healthy population.
