Intensity-dependent benefit of statins in survival among prospective kidney transplant patients
American Journal of Cardiology Oct 24, 2018
Lawrenz F. Co M, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers assessed survival post-kidney transplant in relation to pre-kidney transplant statin dosage in patients who had kidney transplant between January 2005 and September 2015 at Rush University Medical. They analyzed data on the statin use and intensity used prior to kidney transplant. Two groups were formed: the statin groups comprising patients using any form of statin, without regard to the type and dose, and the non-statin group including the rest of the patients. Findings demonstrated that, patients receiving high intensity statin prior to kidney transplant experienced statistically significant survival benefit.
