Integrated behavioral health care for management of stress in allergic diseases

Oland A, et al. - Researchers studied articles and books published between 1995 and 2017 addressing management of stress in allergic diseases allergic diseases. The majority of sources are peer-reviewed articles and preference was given to articles published within the past five years. This review included articles that focused on allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, food allergies, urticaria, and allergic asthma, excluding those in which it was not clear that the underlying disorder was allergic in nature. The evidence, to date, demonstrated that behavioral health interventions are beneficial for patients with allergic disease. Patient's experience of stress and non-adherence to treatment recommendations are required to be addressed by medical providers, ideally, via a multidisciplinary patient team incorporating a behavioral health provider.
