Insurance status, stage of presentation, and survival among female patients with head and neck cancer
The Laryngoscope Jan 29, 2020
Panth N, et al. - Using Joinpoint regression analysis, researchers measured incidence trends and explored the connection between health insurance status, stage at presentation, and survival among females with head and neck cancer (HNC). Using Fine and Gray proportional hazards models, the link between health insurance status and stage at the presentation on overall and disease-specific survival was estimated. Data reported that the incidence of stage IV HNC rose from 2007 to 2014 by 1.24%. Medicaid and uninsured patients were more likely to be diagnosed with advanced stage (stage III/IV) HNC. Similarly, compared with privately insured patients, those with Medicaid and who were uninsured were more likely to die from any cause. Compared with privately insured patients, Medicaid and uninsured patients also had a greater hazard of HNC-specific deaths.
