Insulin resistance and high molecular weight adiponectin in obese and non- obese patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
BMC Endocrine Disorders Mar 15, 2021
Kamali F, Shirazi H, Khodamoradi Z, et al. - Researchers investigated obese and non-obese polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) patients regarding their insulin resistance, metabolic and androgenic profiles and high molecular weight adiponectin. They enrolled 80 women aged 17–43 years old with PCOS in this cross-sectional study in outpatient endocrinology clinics of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Frank insulin resistance was identified in 20% of all individuals with HOMA-IR > 3.8. Findings revealed that insulin resistance is highly prevalent among PCOS patients independent of obesity, and determined BMI related lower level of high molecular weight adiponectin in obese PCOS individuals.
