Insomnia symptoms among female veterans: Prevalence, risk factors, and the impact on psychosocial functioning and health care utilization
Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine Jun 21, 2018
Babson KA, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis, the researchers analyzed the incidence of self-reported insomnia symptoms, identified subgroups of female veterans with clinically significant insomnia symptoms, and studied the impact on psychosocial functioning and health care utilization. Despite the limited diagnosis of sleep disorders (0.90 %), sleep problems were common among female veterans (47.39 %). They observed eight unique subgroups of female veterans with both low and high insomnia symptoms and these subgroups varied in terms of psychosocial functioning and health care utilization, with those with depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and pain having the worst outcomes.
