Initiating tocilizumab, with or without methotrexate, compared with starting methotrexate with prednisone within step-up treatment strategies in early rheumatoid arthritis: An indirect comparison of effectiveness and safety of the U-Act-Early and CAMERA-II treat-to-target trials
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Jun 20, 2019
Verhoeven MMA, et al. - Using individual patient data of two trials, researchers compared the efficacy of tocilizumab (TCZ; n=103), or TCZ plus methotrexate (TCZ+MTX; n=106) with MTX plus 10 mg prednisone (MTX+pred; n=117), all initiated within a treat-to-target treatment strategy in early rheumatoid arthritis (RA). As per outcomes, patients with early RA had better Disease Activity Score assessing 28 joints and remission rates in relation to TCZ-based strategies compared with MTX+pred, although at least part of these effects may be related to a specific effect of TCZ on acute phase reactants.
