Initial severity of major depression and efficacy of new generation antidepressants: Individual participant data meta-analysis

Furukawa TA, et al. - In view of the controversies regarding the role of baseline severity as an effect modifier in various psychiatric disorders, researchers investigated if baseline severity modifies the efficacy of various antidepressants for major depression through individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis. The best-fitting model revealed that the baseline severity did not interact with treatment in a statistically significant manner. It was noted that benefit could be gained from antidepressant treatments for mild, moderate or severe major depression.
