Infrequent testing of women for rectal chlamydia and gonorrhea in the United States
Clinical Infectious Diseases Feb 05, 2018
Tao G, et al. - From November 2012 to September 2015, the frequency and positivity of rectal Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) tests for women aged 15–60 years performed by a large US commercial laboratory were estimated. In addition, researchers estimated the frequency and positivity of pharyngeal and genital specimens also performed on the same date. They observed infrequent testing among women for rectal CT and GC. However, in women with negative genital tests positive tests were often found. No retesting was observed in most women with positive rectal tests. Thereby suggesting the necessity for interventions to increase extragenital CT and GC testing of at-risk women.
