Influence of the interaction between depressive symptoms and sleep disorders on cardiovascular diseases occurrence
International Journal of General Medicine Jan 05, 2022
Wang C, Hu J, et al. - Researchers investigated how depressive symptoms and sleep disorders, in combination, affect cardiovascular disease (CVD) occurrence.
The National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES) database (2005– 2018) yielded data on 30,398 participants.
CVD occurred in 11,544 (37.98%) participants but not in 18,854 (62.02%).
Findings revealed an increased risk of CVD among patients in correlation with the presence of depressive symptoms and sleep disorders after adjusting all confounders.
Risk of CVD appeared higher for patients with both depressive symptoms and sleep disorders relative to those without.
Depression and sleep disorders may have a synergistic effect on the CVD occurrence, and the proportion of CVD caused by this interaction was 26.9%.
