Influence of prehospital physician presence on survival after severe trauma: Systematic review and meta-analysis
The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Oct 11, 2019
Knapp J, Häske D, Böttiger BW, et al. - Via performing this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers examined the effects on mortality of out-of-hospital hospital management of severely injured patients by emergency medical systems (EMS) teams with and without physicians. Searching PubMed and Google Scholar they assessed 71 full-text articles and included 22 studies. Outcomes suggested lower mortality in correlation with prehospital management of severely injured patients by EMS teams including a physician. After excluding the confounder of helicopter transport, a nonsignificant trend toward lower mortality was evident.
