Influence of occupation type on the association between sleep duration and impaired fasting glucose: Results from a Chinese population-based study
BMJ Open Jun 19, 2021
Lu Q, Wu S, Wang S, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to comprehensively assess the influence of occupation types on the sleep-impaired fasting glucose (IFG) association. The sample consisted of 20,502 candidates (6,997 men and 13,505 women) aged 18 to 74 years old. In total, 1,503 participants (7.33%) with a slightly longer sleep duration had IFG. There was a positive association among moderate and heavy physical men and a negative association among light or sedentary men, but not among unemployed men. However, only unemployed women showed a positive association; no other occupations showed a significant association. This research emphasizes the role of occupation in the sleep-glucose metabolism relationship. A gender difference in the sleep-metabolic association was discovered to be influenced by occupational types.
