Influence of obesity on complications, clinical outcome and subsidence following anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF): Prospective observational study
World Neurosurgery Sep 01, 2017
Phan K, et al. – This study sought to compare complication risks, functional outcomes and subsidence rates in normal, overweight and obese patients who underwent anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF). Findings revealed no difference in functional outcomes or complications in patients with elevated body mass index (BMI) compared to normal patients. Lower fusion rates were evident for obese patients. Researchers suggest not considering obesity a contraindication to surgery in patients with appropriate indication to undergo ALIF.
