Influence of drain placement on postoperative pain following laparoscopic Roux-en-y gastric bypass for morbid obesity: Randomized controlled trial
Obesity Surgery Jul 07, 2018
Gundogan E, et al. - Researchers investigated drain use in laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and its effects on postoperative pain. They randomized 66 patients into two groups [no-drain (n = 36) and with-drain (n = 30)] and compared the groups regarding intraoperative (time, blood loss, complications) and postoperative outcomes (morbidities, pain scores, hospital stay). Observations revealed an increase in the postoperative pain following laparoscopic RYGB with drain use. Thus they recommend placing drain selectively rather than routinely following laparoscopic RYGB.
