Influence of adrenal venous sampling on management in patients with primary aldosteronism independent of lateralization on cross-sectional imaging
Journal of American College of Surgeons Apr 27, 2019
Campbell RA, et al. - Researchers retrospectively collected data of patients 18 years or older who underwent adrenal venous sampling (AVS) with successful adrenal vein cannulation to determine how AVS affected the management of patients with primary aldosteronism. Successful adrenal venous cannulation was reported in 74 patients. Outcomes support the potential value of AVS for determining the source of aldosterone hypersecretion, and often this is not concordant with cross-sectional imaging. Many patients were identified who avoided a potentially non-curative operation due to AVS. Frequent alteration in the management of aldosteronomas due to AVS was made. Hence it should be highly considered in patients prior to surgical intervention.
