Inflammatory markers and the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease: A meta-analysis
Alzheimer's & Dementia | Apr 05, 2018
Darweesh SKL, et al. - Researchers investigated the correlation between inflammatory markers with the risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD). They used articles based on prospective population-based studies reporting associations between inflammatory markers and all-cause dementia or AD. The observation made was that C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, α1-antichymotrypsin, lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 activity and fibrinogen exhibited a connection with all-cause dementia. Hence, it was deduced that several inflammatory markers were related to an increased risk of all-cause dementia. Nonetheless, these markers did not appear to be specific for AD.
