Inflammatory arthritis in pediatric patients with morphea
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Mar 15, 2018
Kashem SW, et al. - The experts sought to assess the association between pediatric morphea and inflammatory arthritis with regards to cutaneous, musculoskeletal and laboratory findings and treatment regimens. The systematic retrospective chart review of 53 patients was performed. In 11/53 children, pediatric morphea co-existed with inflammatory arthritis. This co-existence was mostly found in females and they presented with either the linear or generalized subtypes of morphea. In patients with arthritis, the serum levels of antinuclear antibodies were more significantly elevated. In addition to other systemic and/or topical immunosuppressive agents, all children were treated with methotrexate.
