Inflammation in ST- elevation myocardial infarction: Risk factors, patterns of presentation and association with clinical picture and outcome, an observational study conducted at the Institute of Cardiology-National Hospital of Sri Lanka
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders May 21, 2019
Navinan MR, et al. - Researchers examined a population of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction to further clarify clinical correlations of inflammation using clinical parameters and basic inflammatory markers and to determine how these correlate with patient risk parameters, imaging findings and outcome. This study included 88 subjects. Inflammation was appreciated after acute myocardial infarction. They commonly found biochemical evidence of inflammation, however, less often it manifested clinically as fever. A poor correlation of patient factors with inflammation but a possible contributory role of diabetes mellitus was demonstrated. A simple test that showed good correlation with inflammation as well as presence of fever and development of heart failure, was whole blood analysis derangement. A possible influence of inflammation on clinical morbidity and mortality was indicated by its observed correlation with left ventricular dysfunction.
