Infectious complications in lupus nephritis treatment: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Lupus Feb 16, 2019
Thong KM, et al. - Data were analyzed by investigators to estimate infectious complications in lupus nephritis treatment from January 1980 to December 2016. They observed higher incidence rates of overall and serious infections during the induction than maintenance phase of therapy, with serious infections occurring at 8.2–50 and 3.5 per 100 patient-years, respectively. They noted lower rates of overall infections with induction regimens including tacrolimus as compared with mycophenolate predominantly in Asia. They found a relationship between
mycophenolate as induction treatment and lower overall infection risks as compared to cyclophosphamide in non-Asians. Infection-related mortality was more common in Asian subjects.
