Infection rates of MRSA in complicated pediatric rhinosinusitis: An up to date review
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Oct 16, 2017
Hamill CS, et al. - This study was executed in order to appraise the microbiologic patterns and outcomes of complicated pediatric rhinosinusitis. Modest variability was reported in the annual rates of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) associated pediatric rhinosinusitis. No statistically prominent pattern of change was detected in MRSA prevalence during 2004Â2014. Despite the absence of any marked link between the detection of MRSA with either intraorbital or intracranial complications of sinusitis, an important correlation was noted with a poorer outcome. This was illustrated by multivariate analysis for patients from whom MRSA or anaerobes were detected. Hence, it forth the question as to whether clindamycin was sufficient for MRSA and anaerobic coverage.
