Infantile hemangiomas with minimal and arrested growth: Clinical features and treatment outcomes with 0.5% topical timolol maleate
Annals of Dermatology Sep 28, 2021
Bae KN, Shin K, Kim HS, et al. - Although the occurrence of infantile hemangiomas (IHs) showing minimal or arrested growth [IH-MAGs] is limited, recognising their clinical characteristics will aid in the differential diagnosis. Moreover, such type of lesions may be more responsive to topical timolol compared with classic IHs.
Medical records and clinical images of patients with IH-MAGs were reviewed retrospectively.
Only 31 (3.0%) of the 1,038 individuals with IHs were identified with IH-MAGs.
Lesions with non-proliferative components were more commonly found in the lower half of the body (61.5%) than those with proliferative components (16.7%).
The global assessment scale improved more significantly and quickly in 14 patients treated with topical timolol than in those with classic IHs.
