Induction type and outcomes for kidney graft and patient survival in recipients with prior lung transplantation in the United States
The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation Dec 05, 2019
Riad S, Goswami U, Jackson S, et al. - Given a wide variation in induction immunosuppression regimens for kidney transplant in lung transplant recipients, researchers examined how induction types affect kidney-after-lung transplant recipients. They used the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients database from 1994 to 2015 to assess outcomes of patients and kidney grafts for 330 kidney-after-lung transplant recipients; induction before kidney transplant included depletional (n = 115), non-depletional (n = 170) or no induction (steroids only) (n = 45) in these patients. Outcomes revealed no influence of the type of kidney induction on patient or kidney graft survival following kidney transplant for those with previous lung transplants. As no benefits of biologic induction were noted in this large cohort, no induction may be the preferred choice for kidney-after-lung transplant.
