Induction chemotherapy response as a guide for treatment optimization in sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma
Journal of Clinical Oncology Feb 21, 2019
Amit M, et al. - The role of induction chemotherapy (IC) in guiding definitive therapy in patients with sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC) was investigated. Researchers analyzed 95 previously untreated patients who were diagnosed with SNUC and were treated between 2001 and 2018 at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Patients who achieve a favorable response to IC displayed improved survival in correlation with definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT) compared with undergoing definitive surgery. When feasible, surgery seems to provide a better chance of disease control and improved survival in patients who do not achieve a favorable response to IC.
