Induction chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy for N3 head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
Head & Neck Feb 05, 2020
Du C, Blanchard P, Even C, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective study involving 120 patients with N3 (≥ 6 cm) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) in order to determine the function of induction chemotherapy (ICT) and potential prognostic factors, in which they analyzed the treatment results of participants after induction chemotherapy (ICT) accompanied by definitive radiation. Data reported that the ICT response rate was 68.3%. Factors predicting for better overall survival were a good response to ICT and upfront neck dissection (UFND) before radiotherapy. However, improved outcomes were not evident in correlation to undergoing UFND before radiotherapy among responders. This investigation suggests one treatment option for N3 HNSCC might be ICT. UFND might be avoided before radiotherapy among ICT responders.
