Individualized penetrating keratoplasty using edge-trimmed glycerol-preserved donor corneas for perforated corneal ulcers
BMC Ophthalmology Apr 06, 2019
Niu G, et al. - A sum of 14 perforated eyes were investigated to estimate the surgical method and the surgical consequences of individualized penetrating keratoplasty (PK) using edge-trimmed glycerol-preserved donor corneas for perforated corneal ulcers. They reported that 3 cases were treated with PK; one with PK and a conjunctival flap; 10 subjects with large ulcer areas were treated with PK combined with lamellar keratoplasty (LK). They noticed the recovery of anatomical integrity without reinfections of all the treated eyes. After surgery, they found improvement in graft transparency and uncorrected visual acuity among all the candidates.
