Individual- and hospital-level factors associated with epidermal necrolysis mortality: A nationwide multilevel study, France, 2012–2016
British Journal of Dermatology Sep 12, 2019
Traikia C, Hua L, Le Cleach L, et al. - Via studying the French nationwide hospital discharge database (retrospective national cohort), experts aspired to explore whether admitting hospital characteristics and interhospital transfer were correlated with mortality due to epidermal necrolysis (EN), a rare and life-threatening condition. Nine hundred ninety-one patients (mean age was 52·7 ± 23 years) were identified. After adjusting for known risk factors, short-term mortality rates were lower for patients in centres with EN experience than in centres without EN experience. No connection was found between interhospital transfer and survival. These findings, if confirmed in other settings, strengthen the importance of expertise in early diagnosis and this condition management.
