Indicators for imaging in periorbital cellulitis secondary to rhinosinusitis
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Mar 01, 2018
Jabarin B, et al. - The clinical indicators for a subperiosteal orbital abscess (SPOA) were evaluated in cases that presented with periorbital cellulitis secondary to rhinosinusitis. Experts also assessed the need for performing a computerized tomography (CT) scan. Cases at high risk for developing SPOA were the ones having proptosis and/or limitation of extraocular movements, yet many did not have these predictors. Patients who did not have proptosis and/or limitation of extraocular movements but present with a notable risk of SPOA could be identified by the other features and they strongly suggested to perform an imaging study in these cases.
