Independent risk factors that predict bile leakage after hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma: Cohort study
International Journal of Surgery Jul 25, 2018
Nakano R, et al. - The predictive factors for bile leakage after hepatectomy were investigated via analyzing 556 patients who underwent a liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma with curative intent. Findings revealed increased operative mortality in association with postoperative bile leakage (POBL). Researchers identified five independent predictive factors including a history of stereotactic body radiotherapy, a body mass index <20 kg/m2, Child-Pugh class B cirrhosis, a central hepatectomy, and an operation time ≥375 min to be associated with POBL. Patients at a high risk of POBL thus could be assessed via risk stratification using these predictive factors.
