Independent predictors of prognosis based on oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma surgical margins
Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Jun 20, 2018
Buchakjian MR, et al. - Authors performed a multivariate analysis of a large cohort of oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) cases for independent predictors of local recurrence (LR) and overall survival (OS), with emphasis on the relationship between prognosis and main specimen permanent margins and intraoperative tumor bed frozen margins. A strong independent predictor of LR and OS was the main specimen margin; as seen on multivariate analysis. The prognosis was not independently predicted with intraoperative tumor bed frozen margins. When estimating prognosis after OCSCC resection, evaluating the main specimen margins must be emphasised.
