Independent predictors of postoperative stroke with cardiopulmonary bypass
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Apr 04, 2021
Lo EYW, Dignan R, French B., et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective observational study to evaluate postoperative factors that can predict stroke after cardiac surgery utilizing cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). This investigation was carried out at a single institution (Liverpool Hospital, NSW, Australia), where they analyzed 1,082 patients with CPB treated surgically at Liverpool Hospital, NSW between January 2016 and December 2018. Study participants underwent cardiac surgery utilizing CPB. Dialysis dependence, diabetes and aortic procedures were all independent predictors of stroke in this single-center cohort. Elective procedures have been shown to be an independent protective factor.
