Independent impact of peripheral artery disease on percutaneous coronary intervention

Journal of the American Heart Association Dec 18, 2020

Perl L, Bental T, Vaknin‐Assa H, et al. - Researchers sought to ascertain the independent effect of peripheral artery disease (PAD) on a large prospective percutaneous coronary intervention registry. They performed a retrospective analysis of 25,690 patients (years 2004–2018). They examined how short‐ and long‐term outcomes could be impacted by PAD, by using both regression and propensity‐matched analyses. In patients with PAD vs control, higher 30‐day and 3‐year rates of all‐cause death as well as major adverse cardiac events were found. After multivariate analysis, a higher risk of both death and major adverse cardiac events was observed in relation to the presence of PAD. Overall, PAD was identified as an independent risk factor for adverse results in patients receiving percutaneous coronary intervention.
