Incremental peritoneal dialysis is a safe and feasible prescription in incident patients with preserved residual kidney function
Nephrology Aug 19, 2021
Huang LL, Mah JY, Howard J, et al. - Incremental peritoneal dialysis (PD) affords a goal-directed initial prescription that is feasible too in patients with residual kidney function and affords comparable peritonitis rates and technique survival.
A retrospective cohort study of incident PD patients at Eastern Health between 2015–2019.
This study did not include patients who stopped PD within 30 days.
Total 96 patients were included, 54 with incremental PD.
Incremental PD patients, vs full-dose PD, were more likely to be female, had less comorbid diabetes and higher residual kidney function.
Incremental PD not only exposed to lower exchange volumes, glucose load but also granted a longer peritonitis-free survival.
Older age and higher starting eGFR were predictors for longer incremental PD.
