Incremental health care expenditure of chronic cutaneous ulcers in the United States
JAMA Mar 27, 2019
Tripathi R, et al. - Investigators examined the data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey for 288,698 cases to assess the incremental financial burden posed by chronic cutaneous ulcers (CCUs). They observed more incidence of CCUs among females (60.4%), non-Hispanic (77.7%), previously or currently married (80.6%), and covered by Medicaid/Medicare (47.7%) and had a lower income (53.4%) as compared with subjects without CCUs. They suggested an association of chronic cutaneous ulcers with a substantial incremental increase in annual health care expenditure. They recorded an incline in expenses for subjects with CCUs especially with respect to the outpatient cost of care and prescription medication expenditure.
