Dybdal D, et al. - This trial included the analysis of the psychiatric morbidity following childhood onset of type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents. Data unveiled an increased risk of eating disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, substance misuse, and personality disorders in the years following type 1 diabetes onset. A clinical necessity arose for monitoring the mental health of children and adolescents in the years following type 1 diabetes onset with the intention of detecting and treating psychiatric issues related to type 1 diabetes.
