Increasing prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus when implementing the IADPSG criteria: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Dec 26, 2020
Saeedi M, Cao Y, Fadl H, et al. - Researchers sought to quantify the proportional increase in gestational diabetes (GDM) prevalence when the new International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) criteria vs prior GDM criteria is implemented. In addition, they sought for risk factors possibly affecting the change in prevalence. They included Web of science, PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, Open Grey and Grey literature reports to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of 31 cohort and cross-sectional studies with 136 705 pregnant women with GDM using IADPSG criteria compared to, and stratified by, old GDM criteria. Per findings, implementation of the IADPSG criteria resulted in an increase in the prevalence of GDM, however, allowing movement towards more homogeneity.
