Increasing changes in visceral adiposity is associated with higher risk for colorectal adenoma: Multilevel analysis in a prospective cohort
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Jan 28, 2021
Moon JM, Im JP, Kim D, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to examine the longitudinal connection between changes in visceral adiposity and occurrence of colorectal adenoma (CRA). Seven hundred thirty-two (62.8%) of the 1,165 participants in a prospective cohort willingly underwent follow‐up abdominal fat computed tomography and colonoscopy between 2006 and 2018. Four hundred (54.6%) individuals developed CRA during a median follow‐up of 7.4 years. Increasing changes in visceral adipose tissue area were longitudinally correlated with a higher risk of incident and recurrent CRA, regardless of risk factors, indicating that visceral adiposity may be an important target in CRA prevention.
