Increasing BMI is associated with both endometrioid and serous histotypes among endometrial rather than ovarian cancers: A case-to-case study
Gynecologic Oncology May 24, 2019
Grandi G, et al. - A retrospective case-to-case study, including primary endometrial cancer (EC) matched with the corresponding ovarian cancer (OC) cases, was performed by researchers to compare the role of BMI in carcinogenesis of endometrioid and the serous malignancies, at both ovarian and endometrial level. They reviewed 1052 women with EC (n = 897 endometrioid, n = 52 serous) and 955 women with OC (n = 132 endometrioid, n = 627 serous). A higher median BMI was found in EC patients vs in OC patients. Among both serous and endometrioid histotypes, the link between increasing BMI and EC rather than OC was evident.
