Increased small intestinal permeability during severe acute exacerbations of COPD

Sprooten RTM, et al. - An analysis was performed to evaluate changes in gastro-intestinal (GI) permeability in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AE-COPD) and during recovery 4 weeks later. Findings demonstrated increased GI permeability during hospitalised AE-COPD accompanied by hypoxaemic respiratory failure.
