Increased serum netrin-1 is associated with improved prognosis of ischemic stroke: An observational study from CATIS

Stroke Mar 16, 2019

Guo D, et al. - Researchers studied the link between serum netrin-1 and ischemic stroke prognosis. In 3,346 ischemic stroke patients from CATIS (China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke), serum netrin-1 levels were measured at baseline; all patients were followed up at 3 months following the onset of the stroke. Eight hundred forty-five patients (25.25%) experienced death or major disability up to 3 months after stroke onset. An association was found between higher serum netrin-1 levels and improved prognosis at 3 months after ischemic stroke, implying that serum netrin-1 could be a potential prognostic biomarker for ischemic stroke. Risk prediction for death and major disability improved after adding netrin-1 quartile to a model with conventional risk factors.
