Increased serum levels of adhesion molecules ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in systemic sclerosis are not specific for pulmonary manifestations
Clinical Rheumatology Apr 26, 2018
Thakkar V, et al. - Authors assessed if intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) levels were useful screening biomarkers for incident pulmonary arterial hypertension in systemic sclerosis (SSc-PAH). Findings demonstrated that neither of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 was a specific screening biomarker of SSc-PAH. On the contrary, results suggested that the elevated levels of these adhesion molecules in SSc, irrespective of pulmonary complications, could play a role in SSc pathogenesis.
