Increased risk of sudden sensory neural hearing loss in osteoporosis: A longitudinal follow-up study
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Aug 12, 2018
Kim SY, et al. - This study draws on data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort study to examine the risk of sudden sensory neural hearing loss (SSNHL) in patients with osteoporosis. For this investigation, 68,241 subjects with osteoporosis aged ≥ 50 years were matched with 68,241 control people. Using the Cox proportional hazard model, the crude (simple) and adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) of SSNHL in those with osteoporosis were analyzed. For patients with osteoporosis aged ≥ 50 years, the risk of SSNHL was greater. Researchers reported that middle-age adults, and the elderly were at an increased risk of SSNHL in the presence of osteoporosis.
