Increased risk of incident thyroid diseases in people with psoriatic disease: A cohort study
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Dec 11, 2018
Wang SH, et al. - Researchers evaluated the risks of thyroid diseases in psoriatic patients. Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database was used to conduct a nationwide cohort study. The investigators analyzed data from 13,266 patients with psoriatic arthritis (psoriasis arthritis group), 149,576 with psoriasis alone (psoriasis group), and 162,842 non-psoriatic control individuals. Overall, they noted an association between people with psoriatic disease and increased incident thyroid diseases, including hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, Grave’s disease, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Findings, therefore, suggested probability of consideration of endocrinological consultation when psoriatic patients present with thyroid symptoms.
