Increased risk of cardiovascular disease in women with prior gestational diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Li J, et al. - An inquiry was performed of the effect of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on the long-term risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study comprised of cohort studies evaluating the risk of CVD postpartum in women with and without prior GDM. Women with previous GDM presented with a greater risk of CVD compared to those without. The occurrence of coronary artery disease (CAD) was reported in 4 studies and 2 studies reported stroke. The overall RR for CAD was 2.09 and that for stroke was 1.25.
