Increased risk for incident thyroid diseases in people with psoriatic disease: A cohort study
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Feb 19, 2019
Wang SH, et al. - Researchers investigated if psoriasis is linked to thyroid diseases by assessing 13,266 patients with psoriatic arthritis (psoriatic arthritis group), 149,576 with psoriasis alone (psoriasis group), and 162,842 nonpsoriasis controls. Observations revealed increased incident thyroid diseases, including hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, Graves disease, and Hashimoto thyroiditis, among people with psoriatic disease. This suggests giving consideration to an endocrinology consultation when psoriasis patients present with thyroid symptoms.
