Increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome and adipocytokine levels in a psoriatic arthritis cohort
JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology Aug 29, 2018
Feld J, et al. - In psoriatic arthritis (PsA), authors assessed the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) patients according to the most recent definition in a Mediterranean population. They also determined its correlation with biomarkers of inflammation and serum adipocytokine levels. In PsA patients, the prevalence of MetS was higher vs non-PsA control subjects in this Mediterranean population. An awareness regarding the increased risk of MetS in PsA patients, confirmed in different regions worldwide should be created among the clinicians. In these patients, seemingly the increased MetS was linked to central obesity, and appropriate treatment recommendations are advised.
