Increased perfusion in dynamic gadolinium-enhanced MRI correlates with areas of bone repair and of bone necrosis in patients with Kienböck's disease
Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Dec 20, 2018
Müller G, et al. - In this prospective case-control study, researchers assessed the use of dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-MR for evaluating perfusion in the lunate bone in patients with Kienböck's disease and compared perfusion with histopathology with a focus on bone viability. The study sample consisted of 14 patients with Kienböck's disease and a control group of 19 healthy subjects. Kienböck's disease patients exhibited significantly higher and faster perfusion parameters vs the control group. In patients with Kienböck's disease, DCE-MRI at 3 T could diagnose altered perfusion. Increased perfusion can definitely not be used as a bone viability marker. Findings revealed that areas of normal bone exhibited low perfusion.
