Increased peak wall stress, but not maximum diameter, is associated with symptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysm

European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Oct 19, 2017

Soto B, et al. - Researchers here assessed the association between peak wall stress (PWS) and maximum diameter (MD) with symptoms of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Compared to asymptomatic AAA patients (aAAA), symptomatic AAA (sAAA) patients indicated greater MD and biomechanical parameters. However, when AAA patients with MD ≥ 65 mm were considered separately, the MD was unable to recognise sAAA, while PWS, and particularly diameter normalised PWS (dnPWS), were able to do so.
