Increased morbidity and mortality associated with falls among patients with cirrhosis
American Journal of Medicine Feb 22, 2018
Ezaz G, et al. - An inspection was pursued of the relative risk of injury and severity of injury from falls in patients with cirrhosis compared to those without cirrhosis. Among patients with cirrhosis, falls were commonly noted and they illustrated a greater tendency of incurring severe injuries, with increased hospital costs and risk of death. Data shed light on a connection between poor outcomes with ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, alcohol abuse, and infection. This, in turn, underscored the subgroups at highest risk and those who would most likely benefit from preventative interventions.
